About the Fez Heritage Walk
Fez el Bali is the largest car-free urban area in the world, and it rewards anyone who walks it with someone who grew up there. This half-day walk follows the medina the way locals move through it — from the great gates and the medersas with their carved cedar and zellige, past working fountains and neighbourhood mosques, into the alleys that never appear on a map.
Your guide sets the pace around you rather than a schedule. Expect to stop for mint tea, to hear why a doorway is painted a certain colour, and to reach the tanneries viewpoint at the hour when the light is best. It is a walking introduction that makes the rest of your stay in Fez far easier to navigate on your own.

Meet at your riad
Your guide collects you on foot and explains how the medina is laid out before you step into it.
Bab Boujloud and the main artery
Through the blue gate and down Talaa Kebira, the spine of the old city, past food stalls and copper workshops.
Medersa Bou Inania
Time inside one of the finest surviving Marinid schools — carved cedar, marble and zellige at close range.
Fountains, funduqs and the quiet lanes
Off the main street into residential alleys, old caravanserais and the neighbourhood life behind the souks.
