About the Capital Day — Fez to Rabat
Rabat is the quietest of Morocco’s imperial cities and the easiest to enjoy in a single day. It is a straight run west from Fez on the motorway, and the sights sit close enough together that you can cover the essentials without rushing: the unfinished Hassan Tower and its forest of columns, the royal mausoleum, and the blue-and-white lanes of the Oudayas Kasbah looking out over the river mouth.
The city also gives you something the interior cannot — Atlantic air. Most days end with a walk along the seafront or an hour in the Andalusian gardens before the drive home. Travel is by private air-conditioned vehicle, so you can add the Chellah necropolis or the modern quarter if you have the appetite.

Chellah
Roman ruins and a Merinid necropolis sharing one walled garden above the river.

A seafood lunch near the river mouth or in the medina, whichever you prefer.

Blue-and-white lanes, the Andalusian garden and the terrace over the Atlantic.
Drive back to Fez
Return on the motorway, arriving in Fez in the evening.
